This title could describe nothing else but this great work by Odysseus Elytis, which has been in my heart since the day it arrived in my hands. It is a hymn to love, which is why every time I read it, tears are born, and thoughts...
After countless readings, I could literally be called an expert... to describe what this work has to offer, whether it is your first reading or subsequent ones.
It is a text that brings to light a love so beautifully idealized, a love whose roots are so strong that even death is unable to cut them.
The girl is killed but her lover, who identifies with the narrator of the story, does not stop claiming her even after her suicide. He remembers their moments of love and runs to share them with us.
To our ears and to our eyes this seems impossible, but these two lovers had such a strong bond that in the data and senses of that time it was not fitting.
Such a bondage was not permissible, in short, it was reprehensible, and so the girl committed suicide and died. In short, we are talking about a love tragedy.
But her lover , day after day, is seen trying to show her how close he is to her, thinking that no paradise can compare to their love.
The ~m'akous~ that is repeated in the lyrics, makes me shudder every time, because every time he tries to speak with his good, with the one that through his thought, wants to bring back every image and moment.
For those who have not realized or do not know it, it is the well-known work, "The Monogram" and of course it belongs to Ulysses Elytis. It was first published in Brussels in 1871 and in Greece the following year.
The message that the poet wants to give is really so loud that if you analyze even the title, you will understand how much strength of soul a man must have.
How did he manage after such a love to survive and relive in his memory everything he lived for the sake of his only love.
This text is a template that we should all have well impressed in our minds.
Αυτό το κείμενο είναι ένα πρότυπο που θα πρέπει να έχουμε όλοι καλά εντυπωμένο στο μυαλό μας.
Because no matter how many storms come, our love must always be stronger, it must be our board.
That's the point, after all. The monogram is just a letter in which everything that characterizes a love that will last in time is written.
Society may not have allowed them to pass on their love and smiles while they were both lovers in life, but what has been captured on paper can nurture the secrets of this selfless love.
For it is real meaning to love without seeing obstacles and grudges. Without counting what is to come.
For in every love there are upheavals, but in every great love there will be victims that will remain forever indelible, like our hero's beloved.
Some of the lyrics that I have singled out :
And a thousand pieces to throw at us, you hear me
In the waters one by one, you hear me
I count my bitter pebbles, do you hear me
And time is a great church, you hear me
Where once the figures, you hear me
Of the Saints
They're crying real tears, you hear me
The bells are ringing loudly, you hear me
A deep passage to pass through
The angels are waiting with candles and funeral psalms
I'm not going anywhere, do you hear me?
Or one or both at the same time, you hear me
This flower of the storm and, do you hear me
Of love
Once and for all, we're done, you hear me?
And it can't bloom otherwise, you hear me
There is no soil, there is no air
That we touched, myself, do you hear me
And no gardener has succeeded in other times
From so many winters and so many north winds, you hear me
To shake a flower, only we, you hear me
In the middle of the sea
By the will of love alone, you hear me
We've raised a whole island, you hear me?
With caves and caverns and flowering cliffs
Listen, listen
Who is talking to the waters and who is crying - are you listening?
Who is looking for the other, who is shouting - do you hear?
I'm the one who cries and I'm the one who cries, can you hear me
I love you, I love you, you hear me.
