14 January: "Tosca"

On 14 January 1900, the opera "Tosca." of the famous Italian composer Giacomo Puccini made her first appearance at the Constanzi Theatre in Rome. This premiere was a major artistic event, as the play combines drama, tension and thrilling music, while introducing the audience to a world full of political intrigue, passions and betrayals.

"Tosca", based on the play by Victorienne Sardou (Victorien Sardou), tells the story of the singer Floria Tosca, her lover, the painter Mario Cavaradossiand the corrupt police commissioner Baroness Scarpia. The dramatic nature of the story, combined with Puccini's melodic genius, ensured its enduring success.

The performance was performed in the presence of the high society of the time and marked a new era for opera, as Puccini managed to convey deep human emotions through the details of the music and libretto. Tosca remains to this day one of the world's most beloved operas.
