Since Maiden's tour started this year, I would like to share the experience I had last summer in Athens with this legendary band. Saturday morning in the middle of July I packed up my boxers, everything necessary to survive the chase from Eddie. I meet my fellow travellers at the station in Larissa with the same madness and direction to Athens. Already the Maiden scent could be seen around you, t-shirts with Eddie looking at you strangely and other accessories.
Arriving in Athens, at the O.A.K.A., my impatience for this album came to an end. I'm here now, waiting to experience something I've been waiting for for a long time. Looking at where you are, you could understand what music can do and unite us, but also feel everyone's craziness for music and this particular band.
The first to debut were Lord of the Lost, a Gothic-Heavy Metal band with a good dose of madness, just right for that time. An "appetizer" to whet your appetite for main course
Airbourne took the baton with crazy headbangings. The atmosphere smelled a lot like AC/DC but the sound didn't do us any favours by listening too little to the solos and losing the electricity that metal gives you.
And now for the LORD. When I heard UFO's Doctor Doctor I knew now was the time. Maiden opened with three songs from their latest album. Senjutsu, Stratego and The Writing on the Wall. The crowd seemed to have not listened to the album well watching the stage. However, after the introductions we heard Bruce shout Revelations kicking off the "war" and the repeated bouncing started giving me the advantage of some layers of the crowd a little further forward and making me watch Blood Brothers in the open field which made me giddy watching this performing. Aside from the music, the banter between the band members such as Bruce taking Eddie for a sucker so that at the end of Trooper he shoots him and leaves the stage a loser is something extra to watch their live show. It was an awesome experience that made me leave full of memories and a wet t-shirt as if I had taken a dip in a swimming pool.
P.S. As for the smoke bombs, we are indeed cunts.
