On June 14, 2024, I had the opportunity to live a special experience at a concert that was a companion to me. I had booked the tickets five months before, yes, I know it's quite early. Making a spur of the moment decision, I said, "Yes, I'll go without company." Five months later, this day has finally arrived.
My movement was determined by a group excursion from the city of Larissa to Athens and Nero Square. The concert included "Megadeth", with leader and great Dave Mustaine, accompanied by "Blind Guardian" and the Swedish "Grand Magus" from Stockholm. We started our journey shortly after 1:00 pm, accompanied by music from various Annihilator songs to keep us warm and in the mood.
We arrived at the concert venue somewhere around 6:30 pm, in a venue full of rockers and metalheads, with the high temperature and heat not deterring us. Grand Magus opened the night and, although this was my first time hearing them outside of social media, I was impressed by their excellent songs like "Steel Versus Steel", "Untamed" and "Iron Will". Their rock n' roll solos left me wanting to hear them again.
The second band of the night was "Blind Guardian". Having come to Athens many times and knowing the Greek audience well, they did what they knew well, preparing us for the big name of the night, "Megadeth". I really wanted to sing "Bard's Song" with the rest of the audience and live that experience. Let's not forget that all we have is each other.
With the evening having fallen, it was time for "Megadeth". They came in strong with a song from their brand new album "The Sick, the Dying... and the Dead!" - Covid influences? Who knows... On the third track, as expected, a scene happened that could have ruined the moment, but the crowd, the band and our rock n' roll souls were not deterred. In the middle of the setlist, the energy peaked and the pushing started.
We enjoyed cuts and banged along to "Megadeth" songs like "Tornado of Souls" and "Peace Sells". What stood out from the night was "Mechanix", a song from the album "Killing Is My Business... and Business Is Good!" that I didn't expect to hear on the setlist.
Feelings? Rock n' Roll will never die!
P.S. Arrange to do things on your own, to know yourself better. Wonderful people you know in such experiences.
