It's early 2000, 2001, and Massive Attack's Mezzanine magically finds its way into my hands. I feel like a steamroller is running over me with the first bass notes of Angel. I've definitely never heard anything like it before. Music would never be the same for me again. At the age I discovered Massive Attack, and Mezzanine in particular, they embraced me and opened up my horizons. It was an album that changed my entire perspective and theory about music, and it had a huge influence on me. Both in terms of composition and music production. It became my companion on my MP3 player during my student years, through the difficult and beautiful days. The way the band handled darkness on this album, trip hop with electric guitars, loops, the alternation of rapping with lyricism, transports you straight to the dampness and rain of Bristol. So if I had a time machine, I would definitely want to be back at their surreal live show at Lycabettus in July 2003.
