Moravie

Hello

I'm the  Moravie, and I've been a DJ since 2019. I've always loved digging for music. Since I couldn't do field archaeology, I do musical archaeology instead. I grew up in an old industrial town between St. Etienne and Lyon. Music quickly became an escape from the gray dullness of the city.

It started with US rap, like most teenagers. Rap expressed a rage to break free, to liberate oneself from society's rules. But as I grew up, rap didn't resonate anymore because it became too sexualized. Then came indie rock, with references that suited me better, more literary to illustrate my melancholy, and still with that adolescent passion.

Then I discovered The Hacker's album, "Rêves Mécaniques," and it hit me hard. It was like a dark electro crossover, the perfect mix! After that, I got hooked on the '80s, where I really drew all my inspiration. From romantic gothic to post-punk, I've always stayed in that scene.
In the 2010s, there was a big revival of this scene in Lyon, kept alive by places like Sonic with their darkwave and coldwave programming and the famous Dark 80's parties. During this revival years, we listened to a lot of Elli & Jacno, Bauhaus, Sisters of Mercy, Gang of Four, Wire, and Killing Joke. We found what resonated with us—the slightly arrogant carefree attitude of our youth and the urge to break everything!  It was during this time that I started playing at parties, more in a selecta style.

It's only very recently that I've started playing more electronic music. Always on the lookout for dark and melancholic sounds, but with a certain groove—like you're feeling down but still want to flirt at a party. Dark and depressed but still horny!
Now my style revolves around dark disco for that groovy, swinging vibe, but with a slightly sneaky and dark atmosphere. Also around EBM, with its galloping martial sounds gives me chills! This music perfectly expresses that adolescent energy I mentioned, even more so now in a turbulent political climate. I'm discovering and highlighting the Latin American and South American EBM scene. It is greatly celebrated and perpetuated there with a strong European influence like Front 242, D.A.F, Liaisons Dangereuses, Nitzer Ebb...  There are so many interesting artists like Datura Inoxia in Mexico, Undisclosed 1122, Delectro, Sarmiento, Filmmaker, Ravetop, Pildoras Taps from Colombia, Anti Yo, Off Dolls and Murder from Argentina / Suicide Gemini, Revolte, Kontratake Kollektive, Dilunar from Chile / Izakaya Deployement from Péru...
I find it interesting to mix different worlds but with a similar atmosphere, like the aesthetics of B-movies with 19th-century literature. I'm always looking to blend these worlds and incorporate them into my mixes. It's important to stay curious and embracing all its parts, shadow and light, if the sky is dark, it can also be clear.
