It was a clear Monday night in 2022 and I was alone in the city. The streets were empty and the atmosphere was filled with a sense of desolation and melancholy. Not only did I have no plans for the evening but my inertia was increased by my lack of motivation.
I decided to isolate myself in my house and immerse myself in the world of cinematic art. I chose to watch The United States vs. Billie Holiday, a film I had heard a lot about and was left with an open curiosity to see.
As Billie Holiday's story unfolded before my eyes, I discovered a part of American history that I was inexplicably less familiar with. The challenges, struggles and difficulties Billie Holiday faced left me emotionally overwhelmed.
As the film reached its climax and Billie performed "Strange Fruit", the song that became a symbol of resistance and change, my emotion was unspeakable. Billie Holiday's voice pierced the screen and reached my heart, bringing an intense stirring and awakening to the importance of art in social change.
As the film ended, I felt a sense of energy and determination to face my challenges in the same way that Billie Holiday did. "Strange Fruit" is etched in my mind as a monument to resistance and hope in a society fighting for equality and justice.
